Oneness with the Divine Will

Most people have heard about practical magic or thaumaturgy. This is the use of rituals, invocations, magical words, and mental imagery to bring about a personal goal, such as to protect oneself from danger or to increase the success of a business venture, in service to one's personal will and ego.

A higher and more acceptable form of magic is theurgy, which employs the tools of thaumaturgy, but for a nobler and less "personal" purpose.

The aim of theurgy is oneness with the Divine Will, a condition in which the personal ego is superseded by the higher, divine Self of man. As such, theurgy is also called “divine magic” or “holy magic” or magic without rituals- the activation of the autonomic and parasympathetic nervous system by the use of thought and power of the spoken word to manifest the desire of the divine man. Given the virtuous intention, it is taught and practiced by authentic esoteric schools, particularly those of Martinist leaning.
